Course Objectives: Upon completion of this program the learner will be able to:

  • Review the fundamental physics of diagnostic ultrasound equipment
  • Evaluate how transducer deficiencies affect image quality
  • Describe transducer and image orientation
  • Identify optimal patient positioning; standard echocardiography planes and associated transducer placement
  • Compare advantages and disadvantages of TEE and TTE
  • Describe a practical approach to echocardiographic evaluation of shock
