Advanced Emergency Ultrasound
Course Objectives: At the completion of the program, the participant should be able to:
- Identify sonographic characteristics associated with hepatobiliary disease, pancreatic pathology, renal disease, and fluid localization.
- Explain the role of ultrasound for extended applications (including but not limited to) pneumothorax, ocular and musculoskeletal procedures in the emergency department.
- Demonstrate the use of ultrasound guidance for vascular access.
- Explain imaging techniques and routine scan planes used in cardiac ultrasound.
- Recognize normal cardiac structures & identify ultrasound findings associated with cardiomyopathy, pericardial effusion, cardiogenic shock, dissection & other hypotensive conditions.
- Discuss imaging techniques, normal and abnormal characteristics associated with lower extremity venous examinations.
- Explain normal sonographic findings and commonly seen abnormalities associated with testicular ultrasound.
- Perform testicular ultrasound exam.
- Describe scanning techniques used in foreign body localization.
- Increase knowledge and confidence to perform and/or interpret examinations.
