Introduction to Shoulder Ultrasound
Audience:
Orthopedic surgeons, Sports Medicine Physicians, PM&R Physicians, and other clinicians interested in using shoulder ultrasound for diagnosis and treatment of shoulder pathology.
Course Overview: This 1-day course is designed to provide an introductory overview for the use of ultrasound for diagnosis and treatment of shoulder pathology, with an emphasis on normal and abnormal recognition. Scanning workshops and lectures are used to explain anatomy, pathology and scanning protocols of the shoulder. Attendees will learn how to efficiently integrate ultrasound into their practice while enhancing patient care. A low student instructor ratio is used to maximize scanning during the hands-on scanning sessions. Scanning phantoms will be used to practice injection techniques.
Course Objectives: Upon completion of this program the learner will be able to:
- Understand ultrasound physics and the use of the technology
- Understand the role of shoulder ultrasound, and how to successfully integrate this technology into clinical practice
- Identify the indications for shoulder ultrasound
- Recognize normal ultrasound shoulder anatomy
- Recognize abnormal anatomy
- Understand the use of ultrasound guided techniques for shoulder injections - Understand how to correctly code and bill for ultrasound procedures
